In 1994, a group of practitioners and administrators met to determine how to best support the interests of professionals interested in, or already using Re-EDucation principles in their work settings.
These initial meetings resulted in the creation of annual summer training sessions, as well as the founding of the Washington Re-EDucation Association (WAREA), a non-profit educational organization. As a sponsoring agency of the American Re-EDucation Association (AREA), we are connected to numerous agencies, school programs, and other professionals implementing Re-EDucation throughout the nation. This is a grassroots effort and new members, ideas, and input are always welcome.
Vision Statement
WAREA is working toward a future where we are nationally-known experts in EBD, with cutting edge resources and a staff of consultants and trainers readily available to assist anyone working with children and youth in need of our services.
Washington Re-EDucation Association is a group of educators, clinicians and administrators whose purpose is creating success in homes, schools and communities, for children and youth with challenging behaviors.
We promote, encourage, support, and advocate for the use of evidence-based practices within the philosophical framework of Re-EDucation by providing resources, trainings and consultation.
The trainers represent professionals who skillfully practice and embody
the principles of Re-EDucation in their work with troubled children and
families throughout Washington. The group reflects a coalition of
educational professionals serving in both residential or school district
settings and mental health professionals actively working through
mental health agencies or school-based programs. The trainers represent
a continuum of care ranging from program and classroom consultation to
inpatient psychiatric care. In addition to annual summer trainings, the
WAREA trainers are available to provide technical assistance,
consultation and training to interested school districts and mental
health agencies in the Pacific Northwest.
