About WAREA
In 1994, a group of practitioners and administrators met to determine how to best support the interests of professionals interested in, or already using Re-EDucation principles in their work settings.
These initial meetings resulted in the creation of annual summer training sessions, as well as the founding of the Washington Re-EDucation Association (WAREA), a non-profit educational organization. As a sponsoring agency of the American Re-EDucation Association (AREA), we are connected to numerous agencies, school programs, and other professionals implementing Re-EDucation throughout the nation.
WAREA intends to continue its efforts to provide technical assistance, training, networking, and support to programs and practitioners throughout the state of Washington. This is a grassroots effort and new members, ideas, and input are always welcome.
Mission Statement
We are a group of educators, clinicians and administrators whose concern is the welfare of troubled and troubling children and youth in the state of Washington. Our purpose is to promote, encourage, and support the use of Re-EDucation principles and practice in a variety of settings and modalities.
Our Trainers
The trainers represent professionals who skillfully practice and embody the principles of Re-EDucation in their work with troubled children and families throughout Washington. The group reflects a coalition of educational professionals serving in both residential or school district settings and mental health professionals actively working through mental health agencies or school-based programs. The trainers represent a continuum of care ranging from program and classroom consultation to inpatient psychiatric care. In addition to annual summer trainings, the WAREA trainers are available to provide technical assistance, consultation and training to interested school districts and mental health agencies in the Pacific Northwest.
