WAREA Services
The Washington Re-EDucation Association offers training, consultation, and technical assistance for working with children and youth presenting challenging behaviors to school programs, agencies, and professionals throughout Washington state. WAREA developed the following curriculum which can be easily delivered without modification to groups of 10-30 people:

- The Nine Stages Of The Re-Education Process
Participants will learn about the 9 stages that a student will go through in a Re-EDucation setting, including the typical behaviors exhibited at each stage, and staff behavior that will assist him/her in progressing through these stages.
- Adventure-Based Classrooms
Participants will actively learn about the use of experiential education and adventure-based learning with students/clients, how to select and implement experiential activities and how to modify and tailor activities for the group.
- Structuring Your Program For Success
Participants will learn how to set up the classroom or milieu to assist in management of problem behaviors, and implement strategies to encourage students and clients in self-management.
- Understanding The Conflict Cycle
Participants will learn about the sequence and components of the Conflict Cycle, strategies to interrupt and break the cycle, and instead, implement more positive and proactive interventions.
- Introduction To Groups And Group Processes
Participants will learn about the benefits of using the group as a management technique, various types of groups, and how to run an effective group.
- Teaching Social Skills Effectively
Participants will learn about the most effective methods for teaching social skills, how to build and customize a social skills lesson, and have the opportunity to learn from and share with other participants effective lessons in social skills.
- Proactive Behavior Management
Participants will learn numerous interventions to assist in managing behavior problems, when to apply management strategies, and how to build a behavior plan.
- Effective Instruction
Participants will learn how to build and assess an effective lesson, one that will engage students and create high interest and deep learning.
- Introduction To Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI)
Participants will learn the foundational skills necessary for use of the Life Space Crisis Intervention Interviews. They will learn the stages of the LSCI interview, and the six different types of LSCI interventions and the students with which each strategy is helpful.

- Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI)
Participants will learn the skills for processing a student's verbal abuse, distorted thinking, and defensive statements without losing their professional direction, temper, or self-confidence. LSCI uses the current crisis as an opportunity for the child or student to gain insight into his/her own pattern of self-defeating behavior. This is an intensive five or six day course, requiring additional reading and successful completion of a written and practical examination for certification.
- Functional Behavior Assessments
Participants will learn how to assess the function of a child's behavior, develop appropriate interventions, and write a plan to support these interventions.
- Helping Teams/Groups to Cooperate and Succeed
Participants will learn about common problems encountered by teams, how to address these difficulties in a successful manner, and tools to develop and assess team outcomes.
- Developing Positive Behavioral Supports
Participants will learn the elements of the PBS model, and how to apply them in the context of school, classroom, and individual student needs.
- Including And Integrating EBD (Emotional and/or Behaviorally Disordered) Students
Participants will learn strategies and skills for serving children and youth with challenging behaviors in a variety of settings.
In addition to providing training, WAREA provides consultation and technical assistance. WAREA can visit your site and help you develop programs unique to your setting or develop solutions to your particular issue.
